WANTED: Keep the Rainforest Alive

How much better for all if the "lungs of the earth" were left to grow & prosper....

Yes, people need to make money to live in the regions where the tropical rainforests exist but cutting down the beautiful trees (which are so necessary for the formation of rain and climate control) - to sell as logs for timber - is NOT the only way!

What if there was a way to make the rainforest more valuable Alive than Dead? What if there were a good reason to nurture and maintain what nature has given us, rather than destroy it?

Companies are urged to think of viable alternatives, and one such company (led by a visionary who developed this methodology many years ago) is now making it financially viable for the indigenous people of the Amazon Rainforest to grow and harvest a sustainable crop of delicious fruit with many health-giving properties.

It makes sense to buy from a company whose aim is to make profits to go back into educating and empowering the people of the Amazon Rainforest, so that they can look after the gifts of nature which ultimately look after us all.

HRH Prince of Wales and the Rainforests

We watched the Richard Dimbleby Lecture 2009 on BBC1 this week and saw HRH The Prince of Wales speak from the heart about "Facing the Future" - and what this will mean for us all if the destruction of the tropical rainforests is not halted.

Part of his speech included the startling fact that since the 1950's we have reduced the worlds rainforests by a third, and continue to do so at the rate of an area the size of a football pitch every 4 seconds.

Without doubt Prince Charles is an outstanding orator, but it is the content of his message which is so stark and frightening. We need to be more aware of what we are doing to our beautiful planet, and more importantly, what we can do to stop its destruction.

For our part, Colin and I chose a simple path to try and help. We became Independent Associates in an amazing eco-friendly company which makes the Amazon Rainforest more valuable staying alive than dead!

Why should we try to help save the Amazon Rainforest?

The Amazon Rainforest has been described as the "lungs of the earth" because it recycles carbon dioxide into oxygen.
More than 20% of the world's oxygen is produced in the Amazon Rainforest.
Cutting down the trees of the rainforest not only removes the very living thing which helps produce the oxygen, but it also releases into the atmosphere the carbon dioxide which that tree has helped remove from our air over many, many years.
Imagine the effect that this will also have on global warming

So, why should we try to help save the Amazon Rainforest?

The above is just one example .... but it is really quite obvious, don't you think?

Here's a practial suggestion:

If you care about helping to save the Amazon Rainforest, and you are looking for a realistic, worthwhile way in which to do so, start by choosing and using the products which help sustain the rainforest rather than destroy it.

Together we can make the Amazon rainforest worth more Alive than Dead!
